When Baby Patricia's mom was two months pregnant she went to the hospital for prenatal care and
discovered that she was HIV positive. She was very upset by the news and when she told her husband,
he became nervous and kicked her out of the house saying she brought this disease home.
So Star went to live with her brother. But two months later, she went home to visit her husband and
he asked her to stay and take care of him as he was very ill. Unfortunately, he did not recover. He died
leaving Star alone and 6 months pregnant.
After Patricia was born, she could not feed on her mother’s breast milk because her mother was HIV
positive. When Star brought Patricia to Tessa Grace for the first time, she weighed only 2.5kg (5.5 lbs).
Now, 3 months later, Patricia weighs 5kg (11lbs).
But our story does not end here. Star Mario suffers from Elephantitis in the left foot (as you can see in the
photo). With this problem she cannot walk long distances or work in the fields making it impossible to feed
her two children. The neighbors and some relatives help when they can, but life is so hard for everyone and
her neighbors and relatives cannot share what they do not have!
