Lian & Lunnu Thang
Lian grew up in a remote village in Myanmar. As the oldest of six siblings, he felt responsible for his family after his father died. Lian never intended to become a theologian or pastor, but clear signs of God’s call urged him towards ministry. Lian only felt fully able to fulfill God’s plan after he married Lunnu. In 2011, Lian graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary. He partnered with CRI to start Shalem Christian Academy.
In Myanmar, many parents work all day in the rice fields and are too busy, poor, and tired to send their children to school. Because of ongoing civil war and widespread corruption, these families and their children face constant fear and hardship. Lian and Lunnu’s vision is to bring these children, especially orphans, into Shalem Christian Academy. Their goal for their students is to teach them not only how to survive, but to love God, love their neighbor, and become contributing members of society.
